@hallo

  • wrong, like anyone in my country who has gone to university, I know a great deal about Germany especially early Romanticism, Elias's civilisation theory and the Germans, 1914-1945 and the history of the BRD. I know a lot about Hegel, Marx, Mann, Fassbinder and cultural despair. But I also know that most Germans know a lot less than I do. It's a bit like going to Greece and expecting the newspaper kiosk owner to be an expert on Plato - in actual fact he's a chain-smoking, heavy-drinking macho. Europe's classical days are long over, now they are trying to be world leaders in "social values" - after getting together to murder millions just a few decades ago. Especially Germany! But thhey keep getting shocks, like the PISA shock for example. Every night the Tageschau makes me laugh (asides from having the day's news read by a virgin!!) hahahahha! Beer's OK though esp Rothaus and Jever. Thanks!!
