As far as I can see you would not know these things without my explaination.

I go crazy. It is ALWAYS the same. For years and years and years me and other people of turkish descent are trying to explain these things.

But usually you could know all these things just by thinking.

I wonder WHY you and tons of other Germans need someone who explains it to you.

You should recognize by yourself that most Turks in Germany belong to the "Unterschicht" and that they came from the poor villages of Turkey.

It is not difficult to know that Turks from the middle- or upper-class would never do those jobs which most Gastarbeiters did.

And that shows me that you know nearly nothing about Turkey.
A lot of german people are ridiciluous concerning these subjects.

No, we better don't talk in any way. Now, that is a "good" advice. Makes things way better.

And of course, travel next time should go to Anatolia, because that is what you talk about, isn't it?

Good to know, there is always someone looking down to another one...

I think atleast kurds are to appreciate, what there gained from germany.
I know, because you turks promised(Attatürk to be specific) them there own country, but you didnt appreciated there help at killing nearly all Armenian people

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman_Armenian_casualties

    so you betrayed them.

You turks didnt even have shame to ridicule yourself.

I can only adress to the american people, that you should always think about these facts and why we Europeans dont want Turkey to be in the EU.

Also they killed and tortured Christian people, they dont accept christan churches to be build in Turkey, they dont accept south cyprus as a country, they invaded north cyprus, they are still suppresses curds, they are not ready to be in the Eu, not even close!

1/ Germany was not capable of resolving this issue (same with "duldung" for asylum seekers) by itself due to public resistance and weak politicians. The German govt had to be forced by the EU (the EU third country nationals directive, about 2003) and also to have proper immigration law (zuwanderungsgesetz) for the first time.

2/If you live in an empty house with no traceable owner for I think 8 years in most countries and probably Germany as well, the house is legally yours. But two generations still on a temporary visa in another country is ridiculous - even if you come from a different culture, even if you are not "integrated." You just can't treat people like that, and you will be forced to behave properly as has now happened.

3/When people are permanent citizens of a country, they get assistance from the government to learn english or change their social attitudes etc because their elite form pressure groups, work in the government etc.

4/"Integration" was replaced by multiculturalism decades ago in many countries. Even in germany, it only means "speaking the german language" not "being just like us". We live in the modern world now in Germany, there is no "us", even a neo-nazi would not be able to define what a "German" is - as they also couldn't do in 1933-1945.

Obama was in Turkey during the last few days.
You will see how things are going to develope in the future.
You better kill yourself now, because things are going to change in favor of Turkey.

The US and Turkey are close allies.

Obama spoke in the turkish parliament,in front of the press and with turkish students.

Watch BBC or CNN today and you will see, what US-policy concerning Turkey will look like in the future.

And then go and cry your heart out.

  • nato vs eu

the nato isnt the eu, i think a lot of turks dont understand that they are mayor differences between this 2 organisations, the nato is military pact for defence, with usa, canada, most of europe and turkey, the eu on the contrary is an union with its own currency and equal standads of law, social standads, possibility of moving freely in the countries without visa etc.

Its much more than just the Nato, so the requirements are much harder to fullfil for turkey, even when the armenian problem is solved, there are still the porblems with the cultural and political kurds autonomy, the recognition of south cyprus, because its an eu member, also the freedom of religion.

All these problems have nothing to do with the nato, but all with eu.

As long as they are not solved, turkey cannot enter the eu membership, or even join the euro.

    dragonmaster 07 Apr 2009, 05:24 - Denuncia
  • @dragonmaster

I know quite well that the EU is not the NATO.
I was not talking about the NATO.

    Cem Dönmez 09 Apr 2009, 11:16 - Denuncia
  • @dragonmaster

By the way,the EU is the one who doesn't understand that it is a different organization than the NATO.

A few days ago an EU-politician (Olli Rehn) said that Turkey will have problems joining the EU by not accepting the danish Prime Minister becoming the new head of the NATO.

That was sooooo ridicilous. What have this two subjects got to do with each other?

Whole Turkey laughed about that.Later other EU-politicians said that it was wrong what Mr. Rehn said.

    Cem Dönmez 09 Apr 2009, 06:20 - Denuncia
  • @dragonmaster

.....and Turkey is solving all the problems which you've mentioned step by step.

There are kurdish TV-Channels in Turkey since a few weeks.Kurdish people get more and more minority-rights.

Turkey will open it's gates to Armenia in a few weeks.
The country is ready for a dialogue with Armenians.

Churches and christian schools are re-opened (for example the famous christian school in "Heybeliada" near Istanbul).

Turkey also has lots of jews who live in peace with the rest of the population for over 600 years now.During the Ottoman-Empire many hundred-thousand jews emigrated from Spain to turkish territory.Later, during the german Nazi-regime Turkey also gave new home for jews.

The requirements for an EU-membership will be fullfiled.

But of course the EU will still not accept Turkey.
    But......who cares?
Turkey is changing, because the country WANTS to change. It is not changing to satisfy the EU.

Who cares if the country is an EU-member or not,if it has reached the EU-standard???????
    Turks will not care.
Maybe Turkey will not want to join the EU by it's own.It might be an advantage to stay outside the EU.

Turkey is changing very fast.It is already a country, which can't be compared to any other country with a major muslim population.
As Obama said, the country is a positive example for muslim countries.

Eva Mendez said that Istanbul is her favorite city and then comes Rome.
Mickey Rourke,Charlize Theron,Carmen Electra,Christina Aguilera, are just a few names who are fascinated by the country.

Musicians like Depeche Mode,Pet Shop Boys,Deep Purple,Pink,Shakira,50 Cent,Beastie Boys....and many, many others always do some gigs in Turkey.
Franz Ferdinand even wrote a song about it.

Do you think that all these people would be fascinated if Turkey wasn't a fascinating place?
    Are all those people crazy?
Do they come from non-developed countries?

Turkey has a bad image because of the uneducated "Gastarbeiters" all over Europe.

The country is very, very different from what people in Europe think about it.

But of course this will change in about 10 or 15 years.

Nikki Lauda (Formula 1)said that he saw more women in Turkey in short clothes than in many other countries.

There is soooooo much more to say about the sick relationship between the EU and Turkey, but I am afraid,I can't count them all.

So,....I leave you alone with your prejudices,my friend.

But I know that one day you will be ashamed of your thoughts about Turkey,Mr. Dragonmaster.

    DON'T FORGET MY WORDS!!!!!!!
Until then I wish you a happy life!!!!

  • @looki

I am a German who has lived in the US for a number of years (WA and CA). I now live in Germany again. I can relate to some of the criticism of Germans as not being as approachable as people in the US or Latin America. However, I find accusations of racism as leveled by you and others in this forum wholly inappropriate.

Sure, there are racists in Germany. There are racists in the US (ask the blacks/Latinos/Asians). There are racists in Mexico (ask the Guatemalans and indigenous people). There are racists in the UK (ask the Indians). There are racists in Japan (ask the Ainu). The list goes on. I honestly can't see anything special about Germany in this regard. In my experience, it's all about how you approach people yourself. That will, to a large extent, determine how they approach you. If you expect them to be racist to begin with, you shouldn't be surprised if they actually are toward you.

It seems to me a lot of you Germany haters out there are really only getting what you ask for. Guess what, we are people, too, not incarnations of your twisted imagination. Treat us as people, and you will be treated in kind.

And sure, Germany's history is replete with wars and examples of how bad man can be unto his fellow man. But, for example, so is the UK's -- the entire history of the British Empire is one big display of atrocities. Ask any Indian or African that has the dimmest idea of his country's history. Does that mean I hate the Brits? No. I might as well hate humanity, which I don't either. The point is, there are good people and evil people everywhere.

I liked a lot of things about the US when I lived there, and I disliked a lot of things. You don't have to love Germany, just be a little more balanced in your assessments. The world is not black and white, and neither is Germany.

    aleman 10 Apr 2009, 08:58 - Denuncia
  • @Cem

You should acknowledge that the Turks in Germany, for the most part, are not the most educated part of your nation's populace.

They mostly came to Germany from Eastern Anatolia and were a nuisance to the Turkish government in the 1950s, which is why they expedited their relocation to Germany. The Turkish government didn't want these people in their own country!

What you're saying about how nice a place Turkey, and Istanbul in particular, is, may have its merits. I can't say because I've never been there. But why is it that the Turks are just about the only ethnic group in Germany that is experiencing a cultural divide with the rest of the population (not just ethnic Germans but everybody else in Germany)?

I'll tell you why. They had a poll among (ethnic) Turkish university students in Germany, and it was found that a third of them (!) condoned honor killings. And that's the university students! Most Turks in Germany are far from that level of education. Why is it that Turkish parents still teach their children how bad of a society we are and that they should not mingle with us?

How can we integrate someone who doesn't want to be integrated? The hostility the Turks are experiencing in Germany is mostly of their own making. Germans are not hostile toward Italians, Spaniards, Greeks, really just about anybody, the way they are toward the Turks. Doesn't that make you think? How would you feel if the least educated part of the Ruhr valley population mass-immigrated to Turkey, never learned a word of Turkish in 40 years and on top of that taught their children how evil Turkish society was?

I'm sure you'd be really welcoming toward them, now would you?

Read my post. I never anything like that.

I'd love to welcome the Turks into German society. It's they who don't want to be a part of it. How is that our fault? If they hate our culture so much, why do they want to live in our country?

Stop pounding us with stereotypes of yesteryear, and address the real issues.

    aleman 11 Apr 2009, 02:52 - Denuncia
  • @french man

By the way, being a Frenchman, maybe you should reflect a bit on your country before criticizing ours? What about the Algerians in France? Do you welcome them with open arms? And what about Napoleon? He invaded and conquered half of Europe just like Hitler. In Germany Hitler is despised but in France Napoleon is revered. Why? Seems weird to me.

    aleman 11 Apr 2009, 02:59 - Denuncia
  • aleman

napoleon never killed anyone in gas chambers like you germans did. and algerians are very well integrated in french society.

of course the turks dont want be part of a country with a shame history like germany.they are in germany to enjoy social security and things like that, not because they like germans(to like germans is impossible,i am sorry to say).germans are the most disgusting and crazy people in the earth, and germans deserves to live with the scum of turkey forever,to pay what they did in second world war.

    french man 11 Apr 2009, 03:09 - Denuncia
  • @french man

Algerians are surely not better integrated into French society than Turks are into German society. Just look at the riots in the banlieues.

Hitler was more efficient in killing people, that is true. But Napoleon also killed a lot of people, you can't deny that. At least we've learned from our past. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who supports what Hitler did it Germany, but you'll find lots of people who aggrandize Napoleon in France to this day. WHY?

Finally, I disagree with your concept of multiculturalism. If anybody immigrates to another country, whether it be Germany, the US, France, or any other place, they should try to become part of that society. That doesn't mean they should give up their cultural heritage. I value different cultural backgrounds and all that that brings to a society. But if they really don't like our society, as in teach their children we're the infidels, how can I accept that? Nobody forced them to come to our country. If
it's so horrible, why don't they just go back?

I'm not a xenophobe. I've lived in other countries myself. But I do expect a minimum level of adaptation from immigrants. I did the same when I abroad.

  • @french man

I just read your second post. I can't believe you're saying these things. I was born in 1975. How am I responsible for happened during WWII? And even my granddad, who fought in the war -- how can you really blame him. They would have shot him and his entirely family if he had refused to serve in the military.

It's so easy for people to judge Germans. But believe me, nobody is more ashamed of the war than we are. That has nothing to do with how the Turks behave today.

    aleman 11 Apr 2009, 03:19 - Denuncia
  • @french man

PS: I am really disgusted by people like you. A discussion with you is pointless. You will hate Germans no matter what I say because you've decided that Germans are evil.

Go to Germany and you will find that virtually anybody you meet will be ashamed of the war and the Holocaust.

Again, I was born 1975. But it doesn't matter to you. You've decided that all Germans are evil by race. How is that any better than deciding that Jews are evil?

You don't seem to listen to what I say at all. You've decided for yourself that Germans are evil, and nothing I say can ever change your point of view.

At the same time, you say things like "all culture that is worth in Europe came from France".

Can't you see that's the same kind of attitude that led to "Deutschland ueber alles".

I will end this discussion now.

You disgust me to the utmost degree. You have no willingness to learn about Germany, nor about conservative viewpoints, nor about what it means to be conservative in Germany today. Conservatives in Germany distance themselves vehemently from nazis past and present. The conservative party is the CDU, not the NPD. The NPD is not even in the German parliament.

Chancellors Adenauer and Kohl, the strongest proponents of European unity, were from the CDU.

You don't know what you're talking about at all.

National Socialism and Communism/Socialism have the same philosophical root -- they're both based on Hegelian philosophy which elevates the states above the individual. As I said, I am a conservative but you might just as well call me a conservative-libertarian. Look up Congressman Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty in the US. That's what I subscribe to.

It should be obvious to you and anybody reading this that that's a far cry from any Nazi-type philosophy.

The true Nazis today are the do-gooders like Nancy Pelosi.

That's not asking for too much now, is it? It's what the French meant by "fraternite'" in the French revolution. How can there be a functioning society if some group calls the rest the infidels?

We have lots of mid-sized cities and a very diverse collections of different cultures within the country. By contrast, Napoleon mandated everybody to speak the dialect of Paris by threat of severe punishment. That's why YOU only have one city where everything is concentrated. France to me is the epitome of a centralist country. Paris = France. I like some variety.
