less common in the South Island

• Break ins are possilbe pretty much anywhere, but much less common in the South Island. generally speaking.
  
  Where I live, outskirts of Auckland, I would normally not want to leave my car overnight. I'd almost expect it to get broken into.
  
  but in Otago, where I used to live, I'd leave my car pretty much anywhere and expect it to be there when I got back.
  
  Secure carparks are not common.
  
  That said, I've left my car lots of silly places and have never had a problem.
  
  Just make your car look unappealing.. Laughing
