English and Spanish

Meritxell, it all depends where you're moving to. If will be living in Flanders, you will need to understand Dutch to be able to deal with paperwork, but your English should suffice for social contacts. Although, it is a social advantage to commit to learning it, at least. If you move to a French-speaking part of Belgium, you will probably be rather helpless if you don't learn French. That goes for administrative issues, but also for everyday life, as English isn't understood is widely by Frenc speakers as it is by Dutch speakers. On the other hand, French might be easier to learn than Dutch. If you want a more than menial job, you will have to know Dutch, French and English, at least to a certain level.
