working permit

• I am a 33 yr old canadian looking to get a long term work permit or residency in Italy. What would be the best route for me. I have a good job here in Canada and would prefer to work at the same in Italy or have my own home based business. I feel a little over-whelmed with all the information and non-information I seem to gather everywhere I read.
