Switzerland sucks
-
If you think the salaries in switzerland are "higher," remember that anyway the cost of living in Switzerland is at least 2-3 times higher than the rest of Europe, so your savings rates are much lower. Plus the social life and number of contacts here are extremely low, you're lucky if you find even 2 swiss friends after living here for many years. Racism and xenophobia are huge problems here and growing by the day. Unless you are a cheese or watch maker or work in a bank, you will find the other industries to be extremely limited and not very rewarding.
Conclusion: Stay away from switzerland, land of over-priced junk and unfriendly, cold, closed-minded people, and go to France or Germany instead.30 juin 2008, 05:39 Jack

just very real
you just got it very right. i am swiss - and i lived for years abroad. once you been away from that country its hard to return. it sucks - switzerland sucks. and most of all there is a huge immigration problem which is not take care of - that probly adds more fuel to the racisme etc.

Wow
It's only an immigration "problem" because you Swiss are too racist and introverted to accept anyone from other cultures or even accept other Europeans... Get real, we are in the 21st century, Switzerland cannot survive isolated and on its own. You are lucky you sit on money people hide in your land because you show off such a "neutral" face, otherwise you would be as poor as Albania.

I have been in Europe so many times, lived at places etc.
The people are nice and real! Many of my friends got transfered there, my friend are nice and decent people! None of them even want to come back to the states!
You don't like it there? get the f. out.. instead of bitching about something you don't understand.
Also, Switzerland has about 30% foreigners and refugees, how can you judge a country to be racist? For gods sake, they even have acces to Switzerlands very generous social services.!! I always get annoyed about stuff like this. I never had a problem there, the only shady and rude people there are some (not all) refuges and and dont wanna be immigrants living there. You don't like it,- get out! Don't take advantage of the sytem there and bitch about it!

Retards?
I have one question: Have you guys ever been lived in switzerland so that you can judge this country? You talk about police beating the crap out of foreigners and those poor foreigners who are a victim of the swiss socity aha ok... but fact is they get huge social support from the government, they have ridiculous cheep insurances, taxes, and so on, and that is racist? Yea there is a foreigner problem but THAT problem is because the foreigners dont adapt themselfs at all, and that results violence etc. And by the way: What other country gives all young people the same oppertunaty in education like switzerland? Pade government school (AND not one single swiss kid goes to private school just by the way) fully subsidiced Unis and so on. So before you start talking shit first look at your own retarded country before judging other countrys

A clash of cultures
I love this discussion! Lived in Zurich for 3 years. Am British, so fairly liberal, tolerant and open. Swiss, sadly, are not. Therefore clash of cultures. This is the major problem in Shitzerland. It isn't the surface chocolate box nice and clean as portrayed externally. And, of course, you never know this until you live here for over a year.
Negatives: cold, uncaring people (especially in the apartments); ridiculous, archaic rules on things like shared washrooms; stupid customs in/out to Austria; police state; disguised parking attendant pretending to be housewife; expectations of young people to be paid stupid amounts of money, even with lack of education; patronising Post office workers; horrid loud and proud SVA advertisements; intolerance for the positives of what non-Swiss people bring; and general double-standards (because when you are not looking, they do break their precious rules!).
You maybe a Swissie reading this - I'm sorry, this is how people perceive your culture. And indeed, you would be the poor man of Europe without the support of foreign labour since the Italians and Portuguese in the '50s. And no, you have not brought anything new into the world apart from inventing the zipper - you just perfect what was already invented. I also understand that Swiss cannot live in any other country since they are unable to be flexible in their mentality. Oh yes, it's nice to live where the streets are clean, seemingly no crime, all in order - but look at the cost to the human-side of the people. They travel but always come back to live in anality.
On the other side, I fear for the UK where it's over-tolerance has increased loss of respect for authority. Yet do I want Britain to become a police state like Switzerland and lose its personality and character? An extreme to mine?
It's not the money here (yet this buys some people) nor the elusive permits (you must come from a really horrid town to be so desperate to want to stay since you will eventually have to marry to stay here forever!) It is just hard on an intrinsic emotional level to live here with daily unfriendliness and a feeling that even if you are white, middle-class, educated, self-sufficient, worldly-wise, super clean and respectable, open and a good ambassador for your country, a Swissie will generally look down on you like a piece of shit.
Still, there is revolution in the air! The last invasion is a quiet one. Slowly stealing their way in, for cheaper pay yet with all the ticks in the right boxes. Swissies! Beware the Germans!!! This is where you need to be careful - it's not non-German speakers at all! Ha!! The irony of the Swiss uber-Deutsch!!Wendy 16 août 2008, 12:35 - Signaler un abus -
boring???
I don't think Switzerland is boring at all. You can go sailing, hiking, biking, skiing if you like outdoor activites. If you are more city-oriented you can go to Zurich or Geneva and have a blast at parties until next morning. I simply don't get why people always run Switzerland and its people so down. If you visit Switzerland with a negative stereotype already, it's perhaps wiser to save your money and to go somewhere else??

who cares
I've lived and worked in other countries (Spain, Peru, USA) and the level of professionalism in Switzerland is one of the highest. People of other countries are maybe more extroverted and outgoing than the Swiss, but on the other hand, you never have the level of security and safety you can enjoy in Switzerland. I have to admit, that at first it was difficult to find good Swiss friends, but that wasn't much different in the other countries either... So, my advice: Live and let live!

I'm swiss but....
Yeap, switzerland is a good country if you meet a certain criteria. But there is also another side of the coin. As many of the swiss people living in switzerland, I'm amazed how the native swiss deny the problems this country is confronted too. Social Poverty for example is a taboo that many refuse to believe. Lack of soclial consiousnes towards others is one of the worst problems you can find in switzerland. If you defer a bit of the swiss way of thinking you are in deep, but I mean really deep shit. Once you are living here in switzerland, it doesn't matter if you are a foreigner or a low income swiss (aka "Working Poor" as how they like to call poverty in a "modern" Switzerland). For those of you who ask, yes there are poor people in switzerland. There are homless people, there are people begging on the streets. Why don't you hear about this aspects of the helvetic country? That's easy, the swiss folk knows how to live with appearances. They like to hide facts (i.e. hiding jewish money) to the outside world, so that the only image they show to the world is of the "Industry Perfection". They don't tell you about the ilegal mom that has cancer with her blind child seeking help in switzerland and beign deported on worst conditions than the average drug dealer you find on the streets of zurich or bern. They hide the people that are in debts and are thrown out of their apartments without ever getting a chance to get another apartment. They require to prove that they have had no debts at all or otherwise the real state branche will never grant this person another place to live in dignity. They don't tell about the persons that are fired on the spot with the excuse that the company doesn't require your services anymore. Dismissing a person from work like that is legal in switzerland. This like many other problems are an everyday issue in switzerland and yet most swiss choose to close their eyes to this kind of problems.
It is true, if you find this country rather boring, as a tourist, well you should consider other destinations. If you have the income or the means and don't feel like living in this country, you can choose to leave it. Nobody is stoping. What about the persons that live here because they have no other choice? Those persons are bound to many problems that are involved in the everyday crisis involved in the obsucre side of switzerland. For swiss and foreigners, the worst position to have is to fall into an economic need. From there you are forced to have 2 paths. One which is choosing the "Working Poor" path where are turn yourself into the modern slave. Which means working 18-20 hours a day to be able to maintain sub-normal income. Working more than 11 hours in switzerland per day is ilegal and many don't know what to do or how to solve this kind of situation. The second path which can be more of a torture is the one that involved the social welfare. This institution primary function is to prevent poverty among the swiss folk. But they will only hear people once they have fallen beyond salvation. A person has to lose his job, his apartment if not something more important to be able to have a hearing with them, and then at some point they will decide to help you. But this help doesn't come free like they state in their website. You have to lose your dignity as a human, take long and intensive psychological tortures with threads on how a mom with her 15 year old daughter are not allowed to live together because the Social Welfare doesn't see it fit for them to live together.
I could go on and on with lots of examples and people I've known during the past years, but it would be only makde redundancy to the points I've treated today.
To sum up things, swiss are racists, swiss are all about apperances, swiss are all about indiference, just words and no action.
I am swiss, born and lived here. And I'm ashamed of calling me a swiss after seeing this kind of injustice.AnotherSwiss 17 août 2008, 02:06 - Signaler un abus -
It is just an experience in our lives
At last. Someone Swiss who is not blind to, or forgiving of, their country's hollow spine. Thanks, AnotherSwiss.
And to the pro-Swiss above, yes, there are mountains - but so there are just as fine in Austria; yes, there are cities and clubs to hang out in - but face it, bland and mundane, not inspirational, forward-thinking or progressive; yes, no crime and clean - so is N. Korea. In other words, you can replace every single aspect of Swiss life with that of another place - with more character, personality and colour, fun, freedom and friendliness. By doing that, what else is here. Apart from Swiss prejudice and superiority.
Pro-Swissies tend to be bought by the sanitised system; have a pretty bland character; don't wish to make a real difference with their life except the daily trough 8-4pm then spend the earned income; prefer blindness rather than the sight of living; And what idiocy! To not question your life and that of your nation. To give your money away to banks and insurance companies all your life via renting apartments. To agree to guns in houses where every single day, a Swiss person ends their life through despair (not found in any newspaper, of course).
And why are foreigners here? Before your bigoted judgement prevails, ask why. Find out about your neighbour or colleague. Maybe they have no choice but to be here. And you know, pro-Swissies out there, us foreigners are away from home, our culture, our language, our families and friends, so maybe put yourselves, for once, in another's shoes and have some compassion for someone who is just a human being trying to move forward in their lives. But, I'm sure this won't happen. Swiss are cold and uncaring and unkind to their own people, why would they change behaviour for the rest of humankind.Wendy 17 août 2008, 06:48 - Signaler un abus -
Image, just image
I am swiss too, I was born swiss. I had the fortune to see and live in other countries, even in south america. came back to Switzerland because I thought it is the "Kiss God gave the earth". But it is not real. Switzerland has only the image to be a good land, to have cows, the land of Heidi. What another swiss said, its true. I have seen, how a man, mister Fontella, tried to extradite a little child alone to spain scaring her father, married to a swiss women, if she does not go, he wont receive his permission to stay in Switzerland, today the girl stays here and is illegal. Even, this man asked the swiss women to leave her country. I have seen social worker abusing the people, which had a bad moment,or lost the work and now are in need. This you can ask, Miss Fröhlicher, she treated her clients with cruel mind, Miss Baumann, she tries to show her power with young people, saying them they are useless. This is an other kind of torture you will never see in the papers, news or internet. And let me tell you, I have seen this, not in foreigners, this happened to their own people. Elder women or man are beeing abused and forced to bend down their head and live in the haviest conditions without dignity, no proud and anonymous with society. The only good thing to be swiss, is the passport, you do not need visa for other countries, but this system is not good and this goverment hides all the things behind this name. Police forces abuse, social workers abuse, people abuse, they learned to be hypocrites. I am sorry to be swiss, and as otherswiss I am ashamed to be swiss. Other places are more human, even Colombia is more human.

I applaud Wendy for making the truth about switzerland known. One of the huge differences between UK and Switzerland, is that if something is wrong in the UK, it's immediately out in the press, there's tons of soul searching, people take a liberal, critical attitude towards themselves in the UK. But, now look at the swiss press. They act as though everything is so clean, perfect, switzerland is paradise, etc. etc. But that is complete rubbish. There are tons of problems in switzerland. The Swiss are very anti-social, they have the HIGHEST suicide rate in Europe, and the country in general is a rude, arrogant, mess, which would be poor as shit if it weren't for black money and drug money pouring into their economy after World War 2. The Swiss deny this fact. They are assholes, racists, closed-minded, ignorant people who have their heads stuck too far up their asses.

It's sad...
Yeah, the last two posts are just sad and another example of how swiss mentality works. Showing with the finger to a few issues that are happening around the world and they feel like super heroes because they didn't search for the facts in their own country. These other countries pointed out for the racism problem examples are by far larger than the aprox. 7 million habitants Switzerland has. Let's take a look at formal reports abuot racism in Switzerland shall we:
http://www.humanrights.ch/home/en/Switzerland/Policy/Racism/Studies/idart_3866-content.html
You can find there studies, not sensasionalist newspaper articles, about racism in Switzerland. Altho if you want some newspaper articles about this I can give you some so you can read about them:
http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/front/Switzerland_defends_anti_racism_stance.html?siteSect=105&sid=9485021&rss=true&ty=st

http://orvillelloyddouglas.wordpress.com/2007/10/26/is-europe-really-safe-for-people-of-colour/
I won't touch North American press since this has it's own databank of news against switzerland, including banking, racism, indiference under other topics, and it's more criticised over there than here. These are just small examples of how racism is manifested in switzerland. Switzerland is one of the smallest countries in population and area and still it manages to have more racist news, coverage and people in a proportion that it truns it to an everyday situation. Because of this, swiss think it's normal to be racist, to be indiferent. This kind of things are spread even among the swiss families. I know a person whose daughter died from a heart disease. On the same time the family of this person were not even there to show condolonces, they weren't at the funeral; they only continued with their lives, because that's the swiss way of thinking. Even death from 14 year old girls are indiferent.
Once again, this are just examples of things that happens on a daily basis. What's more sad is that in switzerland there are institutions that are working and "making aware" that the swiss are like that. These institutions are from goverment or are instructed by the goverment to do so, any yet they are unable to achieve their goals.
Changing subject and getting to suicide rates. Doesn't matter if you are in first place, second place or the 14th place or even the 19th place. Switzerland is one of the countries with highest rates still. And it's sad that a person doesn't have a better argument to say other than: "But we are not number one, we are number 14 in the list". This is just to show how square-minded swiss really are. Someone like this person comes as one of the best examples we have here posting at the moment. This person just got a few links from google and posted them here. Withought even thinking of he was posting about. As long as you have to say something, doesn't have to be smart, it has to be organized and somewhat defensive towards an absurd argument. It's like the person who wants to get an apartment but is not in an economic position to get one. This persons asks for help to the Real State Agency and the lady at the counter replies to you: "Please understand, you can't get an apartmanent. Please understand our investor's position." This is really ironic, because the person that was asking for help has a deadline to get a new flat where he can live or else this person will because home-less. Once again, the rule applies: No Apartment means no decent job, no decent job means no decent apartment (if any). This example just shows how someone is desperate to get a place to live, 4 Walls and a roof, to have shelter for the winter and be able to withstand the cold weather. The counter lady is just the indiferent one that is charged with representing the other's racism, indiference (aka her boss).
I know there are always 2 sides of the same coin, but people just can't ignore one side forever and people can't hide on the other side long enough. At the end, you will only have to answer to one and only one person. You may call it God, Allah, Jehova or something else. One thing is true, what you sow it's what you get.
Sadly this persons that make a critic to anti-swiss people don't bring up good arguments to justify the happenings in their own country. Their only concerns are to work from 8 to 17, which is the new mobile I'm going to buy, what's the new ski or snowboard equipment I'm gonna get, how long can I do trecking or how much time I can spend at the lake. It's like having the modern Amish (google it if you don't know what they are).
As always, saddened by square-minded people.AnotherSwiss 18 août 2008, 11:33 - Signaler un abus -
Your post is just such a shitty, stupid generalization
when did anyone in switzerland say, that switzerland is perfect? do we swiss say, that switzerland is paradise on earth? are we the "salvation army"? hello!!
your last post, "another swiss", ist just so full of stupid generalizations: you could as well talk like that from any other country in the world, eg. usa, spain, mexico, china, etc. it's just soooo ridiculous.
in every country there are tragedies, yet every inhabitant is proud of its own country and will defend its mentality, customs, etc. and in every country officers and state workers suck. i don't see why in switzerland that should be different.
in every country you can meet retarded, ignorant, closed-minded "rednecks", but to say that switzerland has the patent on that is mere bullshit.
and what's the story about this 14 year-old girl? the us deports every illegal alien if they can, regardless of their family situation. so does italy for instance recently. and spain too, since they are confronted with an avalanche of immigrants.
another bullshit is the fairy-tale "that some people cannot leave switzerland". what a hypocrite remark. if switzerland sucks so much, why don't they return to their home countries?? if we are the ass of the universe, simply do the following: leave.
i think the next time i visit other countries (i lived in 3 continents and speak 5 languages) i'll say the following: "hey, you motherf***ing bastard, give me what i ask for, you sucker." let's see how they react in the so-called "better" countries...AnotherSwiss is a self-destructive, stupid, lame idiot 18 août 2008, 12:21 - Signaler un abus -
Swiss are blind
to f*** off frustrated bunch of anti-swiss motherf***ers. you are trying to defend just one point of all the comments, racism. i see you never had the expiriences of the real things happen here in this perfect country. good for you. i see you have no problems in your life, you must have money, no drug problems, no alcohol in your life, no dealing with missuse of power in social services, wow good for you. i hope you never will, i hope your life go on squerminded and live happely for ever and ever.
but reality is different, the swiss system is falling and peolpe like you, (most swiss), will ask, what appened?, and it will be to late. open your eyes, think a little bit further than your eyes. i repeat, i am not the younges, i am swiss, and i have lived a lot of things in switzerland, not just with foreigners, with their own people. you need names? i have them. please open your mind, my conclusion is you are young. go to the places managed by the goverment. there is corruption everywhere like in other countries. the difference is, other countries take it out to public, but switzerland hide them like you do.
sorry to see the future of this land in people like you.Swiss Lady 18 août 2008, 12:55 - Signaler un abus -
Ignorance is bliss for the pro-uberSwiss...
... and so is your education, pro-Swissies, as can be seen by your attacking foul-mouths. Is this really how you are taught to argue a point of difference? Obviously you need to learn to express yourself more intelligently other than fXck, cXnt, dXckhead, motherfXcker and maybe more ears would be open...
Whatever you say negative about UK, Spain, France, Germany, USA etc, at least, if you wish to, you can stand up and rant and rave about the things you don't like about your country. It is in the European culture to daily diss your motherland - then stand behind it when it matters. In fact, this constant questioning is what moves nations, society and people forward. This is why Switzerland is a follower, not a forward-thinker but stuck in the tweeness of the clean-cut 1950s. And rock'n'roll will come in some form or another!
No-one comes down with a bureaucratic or bigoted sledgehammer to say 'Don't say that about my country. Fxck off it you don't like it''. It's simply called ' a difference of opinion'. And it is allowed to happen in democracies!! Oh. Isn't Switzerland meant to be the proudest democratic country in the world?! Another anomaly, in fact...
And so what we have a different point of view to you based on our living experience! By exposing other nations, we are not point-scoring against Switzerland. We are actually showing examples of difference. But, bravo and thank you. You show yet another negative mentality of the Swiss. That of blatent indoctrination, since school days, and a lack of interest in anything not towing the Swiss line. Indeed, how DARE anyone insult anything Swiss!!!! God forbid!! You vill do vhat I do! You vill say vhat I say! Here we go again, 1930s Germany ring a bell?
It will change. Borders will open more in the next 5 years. It is has to to remain afloat financially. And the Swiss will become harder, colder, more racist as they cling desperately to their imaginary identity, which, as we have all exposed, has no substance or truth since real Swiss - not children of E.European, Italian, Portuguese, Brazilian, Turkish backgrounds - have been hidden away in shame since they are farmers, uneducated and speak Romanisch. Switzerland really is a sad nation...Wendy 18 août 2008, 01:19 - Signaler un abus -
and more bullshit from "swiss lady"
me and my family had to face several economic and familiar problems. although we're only half swiss, we could always rely on the swiss justice system and social institutions!
why don't you emigrate to colombia? you might get killed for your earrings in the middle of the street, but people are soooooo warm-hearted. why not go to the us? your neighbour might shoot at you with his shotgun, but they are all sooooo helpful over there. why not go to china and shout "free tibet"? you might get tortured and killed, but china is soooo amazing! why not go to france saying "la france c'est la merde" or to germany saying "scheissdeutsche"?
i'm seriously asking you this: if you think switzerland is such a f***ed-up, racist shithole, return your passport please. i'll give it to the first foreign dude, that's willing to respect switzerland.
thanksswiss lady didn't never get a good fuck 18 août 2008, 01:31 - Signaler un abus -
Swearing doesn't make your point stronger
Whilst we appreciate you writing in English - possibly a 2nd or 3rd language to some of you - and appreciate you have a strong opinion about this subject - can you please calm down on the swearing? Otherwise this discussion loses depth and interest and you take it down to the level of a pig-sty (unless, of course, that is where your level is and like showing this off)...

Pointing fingers!!
Well it's easy to point fingers and show the problems other countries have. But fact is that we are talking about switzerland. Not other coutnries or continents. So I will keep my postings only to talk about Switzerland.
Yes that what you say it's true, Switzerland is not perfect. It's a country where humans live, and humans are not perfect. Still, for such a small comunity, the uproar created by topics of racism, indiference is quite disturbing. It's pitiful that the same goverment is aware of this kind of problems and had to create institutions to address this kind of behaviour among the masses. Even worse is that organizations like the UN calls a country because the behavour of a country is not appropiate toward human rights.
Hiding with arguments like "Are we the salvation army?" just remind me of people that don't care. Once again indiference. I'm 100% sure you are one of the persons that as long as it's all well on your side you don't look left or right. So you think just because you have it good it's not your problem? People are dangerous, and specially people in needs. People that are needed are sometimes driven to act beyond the limits. Criminal rates go up, robberies. And the "innocent" (aka indiferent) average swiss will look shocked to the kind of things that are happening in their countries. What's worse, is that what the kind of help you are thinking of it's just money. Money is not the only way a person can solve this kind of problems. It's not the only way to help either. Pointing people to the right authorities, to the right person, using your relationship with others to help someone. That is also part of helping people. And yet most swiss turn their face away. Even doing a 5 minute call to the social welfare to say: "Hey I got someone here who is starving and has no shelter, where should I take this person to?" Becomes a burden to most swiss, and they just prefer to ignore it because it's easier, it doesn't break their daily routine of waking up going to work, go by and buy some groceries at the store and get home for dinner.
Just another example of our everyday bern life, since I'm in bern at the moment. Tram stop, there's an old lady that suddenly falls ill to the floor. Nobody knows what happened, most people decide to look away, take the tram and continue with their lives. Friend and I got aware and tried to help her, got an ambulance and did all what we could do to get her to a hospital. After all, it's a human life. Friend started asking others why they chose not to help. The most common answer was that it was too much of a trouble and it would ruin their appointments.
About the 14 year old girl. She wasn't ilegal. She was born swiss and died as swiss. When the mother needed her family at her side NOBODY showed up to help her. Even tho they lived on the same town. (This is an extreme case, still one I've only seen in switzerland). The reason the family gave was that they were busy with work.
This doesn't concern just the needed persons, it concerns us all. If you are not willing to be a part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Who is a self-destructive person? The one who makes others aware of the situation and wants to make changes for the better? Or the stupid lame idiot who decides to ignore it? Treating people as if they were some statistic of marginalized persons is the same as beign a racist and in some cases even worse.
You are the one to choose, you are the one who wants to either help or not. It's not about others it's not about institutions, at the end it's all about if I helped someone when you had the means or not.
By the way: The use of vulgar terminology doesn't make you look smart, not in the internet, not in your every day common life. But that's a question about education and decency and continuing on the subject would derail the whole discussion.AnotherSwiss 18 août 2008, 01:46 - Signaler un abus -
@another Swiss
Your remark couldn't be more stupid: Instead of also looking at the crimes other countries did and STILL do, you just point with your finger on Switzerland! Only on Switzerland. Exclusively on Switzerland!!
Why not go to Russia and see how thousands of homeless and veterans are lying on the streets? Have a trip to Brazil, where homeless are just "one more" number in the national statistics?
My family had to face social and economic problems in Switzerland and WE GOT HELPED! But you just don't realize how stupid you are by generalizing single cases.
Hey look, this is your logic: Jack the ripper was British: All Brits are murderers!! Hitler was German: All German are Nazis!! Marquis de Sade was French: All French are sadists!! Ah, and what about the paedophile cases in Belgium?? According to your logic and stupid generalization ALL BELGIANS are paedophiles, right?
And regarding the suicide rate one more remark: I heard and still hear it so many times: The suicide rate of Switzerland is the highest in the world! Well, as you could see and read (hopefully you can) it's a blatant lie! But that's what happens: Repeat a lie again and again until people believe it, but it doesn't change what is is: A LIE.if you point with your fingers you've got 3 fingers pointing back at you 18 août 2008, 02:01 - Signaler un abus -
Dear Beat It (a Michael Jackson fan?)
..I'm not normally reactive but since you are only on the level of BASE then I shall make you my Monday charity work and answer your questions today:
I speak 4 languages fluently - actually, not YOUR language Romanisch (yeh, right, you speak this too!), but German, Italian and Dutch (from country of origins not Swiss bastardised versions); I look like one of those tall blonde Swiss Fraus who go to Globus, definitely not old, so fit in quite well -but my Swiss neighbour is actually a grumpy midget; if I go to a BBQ, I am a very good guest to my Swiss hosts and bring my own food. Yes, for those who are invited (if ever, for dinner, sometimes for BBQ) the etiquette is to bring your own meat, fish and wine!! Appalling hospitality!
And the only thing that a self-sufficient person like myself ever asked from being in Switzerland, apart from good weather, is that the people were polite, kind, friendly and good neighbours. I need absolutely nothing more from here to make my time tolerable, and get on with my own income, cost of living and travels very well, thank you.
Well done my charity case. You have added to the pile of ugly insolent Swiss. Did you know you are actually ironic, and living proof of the worse type of Swiss stereotype? Poor little soldier...
Write your real name if you have a solid backbone, are proud of who you are and what you believe in. Instead of hiding away like a very bad smell in some dark corner...Wendy 18 août 2008, 02:12 - Signaler un abus -
The name of the topic.
Like I said in my previous post, and from the name of this thread "Switzerland sucks" (it's way up there on top of this site, if you were not aware of it) my postings are only focused towards switzerland, not russia, not asia, not south america, not the moon, not mars. Just plain and simple switzerland. Now that beign said, if you want to derail the conversation and change it to "Russia sucks" or "Mars sucks" you could as well start a new forum thread that goes by that name. So main topic on here is Switzerland. Reason I chose to talk about switzerland.
I've had a pretty good life here in switzerland. I could choose the path of the indiference, still be happy. Afterall I'm swiss, not a foreigner. I chose not to follow that path, of course, this means it's a harder path to follow, full of critisicm under other aspects that come with this way of thinking. Stay in touch with reality, see that there are more people needing help in this country (planet if you have to add other countries). I just want to give my point of view, spread the word and make people aware that people can help if they are willing to.
Now that you got help from the Social Welfare System and you and your family are able to have a better status thanks to them it's great. Sometimes the system works. Congratulations on that. Still, there are people that were in your situation, in your very same shoes, or sometiems even worse cases that get ignored. From people that are legaly in this country and even among the same swiss. I'm not generalizing, why should I? That would be dumb. I just chose not to talk about them, why? Because they are not a problem. I'm addressing racist, indiferent swiss people. I'm talking to that group. Sadly you encounter more of these kind of people on a tram ride than any other kind of swiss. So yes, to some point I'm making a general idea.
I hope you've been following all the postings everyone has been doing. If you read one of mine above, I never said anything about switzerland beign number one in suidice rates. I just said it was a pity that a country has such rates and that a person uses this kind of statistic to make a pointless remark.
Now my question to you is: as a person who got helped, are you going to join the indiferent racist group or join the helping and somewhat harder path of helping others. Remember that at the end, it's just about of what you did and didn't.
On a sidenote: when I point my finger, my other 3 fingers are in a 90° angle. So they don't point towards me.AnotherSwiss 18 août 2008, 02:42 - Signaler un abus -
Thanks Swiss Lady
You're right, of course. Language does not completely signify culture. It helps you to integrate though, but funnily enough, it doesn't help in German-speaking Switzerland, as by your accent they know you are foreign and therefore not worthy, except of a sneer, or a sniff of contempt. The issues are mentality and the human side of the nation. And anyway, this is an ENGLISH forum for debate and self-expression, not slander and attack in a spiteful juvenile way.
What is this deal with passports, anyway! Who wants a Swiss passport? You can't even get one if you are third generation born here! How's that for integration! In fact, when I commute, I can only now look sadly, and in general, at those in the Swiss queue at customs. I'm now more aware of how they must behave and live to have the honour of owning one. My overview of their intrinsic beliefs and the stifling community in which they live, happy to be mainstream, conventional superior sheep, not daring to question the status quo, and deriding all those who dare lift the lid of enquiry.
And sadly, as exposed by this forum topic, it does not get better with younger people. Apart from a handful of Swiss thinking few (thank you for standing up and being counted), the majority of pro-Swiss here show what bad ambassadors they are for their nation. The future of Switzerland lies within these forums - and what a disappointment.wendy 18 août 2008, 04:32 - Signaler un abus
