How come all people answer the phone in Dutch?

• Why do people answer the phone in Dutch when they perfectly know that half of the people living in Holland are foreigners. Can't the Dutch simply answer in English?

  You are funny. The official language in Holland is Dutch!!! Imagine if the English in London started answering the phone in Hindi.

  What rubbish. Holland is mostly Dutch. I find the entire thread ridiculous. I never expected anyone to speak English with me. It's difficult as a native English speaker to learn the language because the Dutch are very accommodating and it is simply easier for them to speak English. I don't analyse it - I'm just thankful that it's so easy for me to do everything in my native language here.
