will plastic surgery ever be covered on NHI?

• This is more a question for my own curiosity (I don´t have any interest in plastic surgery, myself). I read recently that it was getting really popular in Japan (and Asia), especially certain facial procedures. Do you think there´s a chance that NHI coverage will ever expand to more elective procedures (certain common types of plastic surgery, for instance?) Opinions from Japanese nationals especially welcome.

  No, I don´t think. The system can´t even sustain the elderly care required by the population in its current state, so personally I do not think that it will be expanding any time in the near future at least.
