For expats without an Internet connection at home, Cambodia has many Internet cafes in cities, especially in Phnom Penh where nearly 300 Internet cafes are located.
Most Internet cafes have a reliable connection and the prices are very reasonable - around 3,000 riel (€0.55, US$0.76) an hour.
If you find the connection is slow, just shop around and try a few cafes to find a faster one. Many Internet cafes also offer international phone calls - for example US$0,49 per minute to North-America. Also, WiFi is available in many restaurants, coffee shops and hotel lobbies.
In Cambodia technology has improved, making it easier to access the Internet than even a few years ago. Approximately five years ago, Internet was only used for business and very few Cambodians had regular access.
Nowadays, Internet services providers (ISPs) are crowding the market, like much of the telecoms industry in Cambodia. According to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications data, at the end of 2012, Cambodia had 27 ISPs which is an increase of 60% compared to 2011.
Here is a list of all ISPs in Cambodia .
In the past three years, the price of having an Internet connection has decreased, however it is still quite expensive.
If you would like to have high-speed Internet access at home the minimum amount is around US$40 per month for a basic package.
Ezecom is an Internet provider that offers premium packages that consist of unlimited access to the Internet. A premium Internet access package costs US$49 per month. The rates are fixed monthly, therefore there aren't any unexpected charges.
If you prefer to use a USB modem (dongle) plugged directly into your PC or laptop there are options with several providers which let you top-up your Internet like you would a mobile. This solution isn’t ideal for heavy downloading or uploading but great for expats living in the country for a only short time.
