Many properties in Qatar are new and sold by developers, but you may use a real estate agent to help you make sure all forms are filled out and filed correctly. The Qatari real estate industry caters to foreign investors and expatriates, so you should be able to find someone who speaks English.

The property market is still new, and a lot of accommodations are still being built. Although you can use the internet and Qatar-specific websites like Coreo  to get an idea of the property market, you may have trouble finding prices and completed residences. It is a better idea to contact a developer or an estate consultant directly to help you find a property.

Buying through a developer

Many Qatar residences are still under construction, which means you might need to buy your off-plan (before it’s finished). Major developers include Barwa, First Qatar, Qatari Diar, and the United Development Company.

Many of these companies' websites are flashy, but they have little information about prices and actually purchasing the property. To find more information about a specific property, you will have to contact the developer directly by telephone or arrange an appointment.

Using an estate agent

Real estate agencies will readily help you find a new or resale property to purchase. Real estate agencies in Qatar include Century 21 Qatar  and Qatar Sotheby's . Mirage  is one of Qatar's leading real estate consultancies.

Although estate agents only offer limited value, it doesn’t cost to use their services: In Qatar the real estate agent's commission is paid by the seller, not the buyer.

Precautions when buying property abroad

Regardless of how you purchase your property, you should check to make sure that your developer and/or real estate agent is licensed. Most developers are licensed, but you should also make sure that they have not been involved in any fraud.

Recently, property owners have complained that developers used cheap materials when constructing their homes. Be sure to check your developer's history, and ask other property owners if they are satisfied with their property.
