personal belongings declaration
None of your personal belongings pay taxes when coming to Canada at the time of your "landing". If these goods are coming AFTER you become a landed immigrant, you must declare them as "goods to follow".
If you bring things like motor vehicles or firearms, you must ensure that they can be registered to their use in Canada with the proper authorities. (Motor Vehicle Division, Ministry of National Defence, the National Gun Registry, etc.) Pets broght to Canada require proof of certain immunizations and may even require quaratine.

moving goods to Canada
Upon arrival into Canada, you will be required to present your Passport and Landed Resident Card. Canada Customs will ask to see your Valued Inventory List as your goods to follow. A “B4” (Personal Effects Accounting Document) will then be completed and your inventory list will be stamped.
