WORKERS FROM BULGARIA WILL GET ‘EUROPEAN’ SALARIES IN 200 YEARS
-
Bulgarian employees will have to wait more than 200 years before their salaries reach the European levels.
Research of Institute for Market Economics (IME) showed that Bulgarian GDP keeps increasing at three per cent annually, which means that the salaries will reach EU levels within 223 years, personneltoday.com reported.
The average annual salary in Bulgaria is 1,602 British pounds compared to 14,000 pounds within the EU or nearly 10 times lower, research showed.
A more optimistic report said that with an eight per cent annual GDP growth, the salaries in Bulgaria could reach the EU standards only within 36 years.
The report said that Bulgaria introduced strict limitations on the employment of foreigners. According to new regulations valid from January 1, foreigners can be employed only if no Bulgarian candidates could be found for the positions.
EU citizens will come second after Bulgarians, concerning employment policies. Only if labour hand is still missing, will companies turn to employees from other countries.
