Hi All
As much as I love Austria and the Austrian people, I'm just wondering if there's an established english speaking expat community that meet up regularly in Salzburg? I'm pretty new here, cant yet speak German and I'd love to meet some other Aussies, english, irish, etc etc.... to hang out with occassionally!

I very much would like secondary school education for my daughter in Austria as I have lost all faith in the English education system of which the SATS results was further highlighted in the news throughout the summer. Wanted: English teacher in Salzburg
HI, we (an Austrian family) are planning to go abroad. As the kids (11 and 14) should attand an American school, they have to improve their English skills in very short time. Maybe we can find somebody to spend some hours weekly with them or even nativ spaker kids to play together (my son is very athletic - soccer, tennis ...) Maybe I can help you in return to improve your German. We also would offer a student to live gratis in our house and instruct the kids some hours weekly.

Working if you don't speak german!
I had a work permit in austria and i could not speak german. If you are in the same situation, you need to know this country is different then in America and I NEVER found a job. I did seriously volunteer to clean garbage in hotel and even I have been told I need a good german to clean garbage.
I end up living on my saving and it was a very difficult time stressful. If you want to work in this country and dont speak the language I warn you it might not be the right destination to learn german by working. The standard are very differents and there are very macho! Some point I say discrimination.gen 01 Nov 2008, 09:54 - Report -

Marketing Jobs in Austria
At the moment I am a teaching assistant in Upper Austria, but I have a degree in both International Business and German. In the US, I worked for a Swiss company doing marketing. I am seriously considering staying in Austria instead of going back to the US and I was wondering if anyone knew of any jobs in marketing for native English speakers. If you know of anything or have any suggestions as to how I could find a job, please email me at [email removed].

moving in october
we moved here in november 2008 too. so far have had an offer of a cleaning job, 4 hrs on a sat!!! and a kindermadchen (looking after guest children from hotels) which is unreliable, as i have to sit and wait if any kids will arrive, then get sent home if none. hubbie is a plasterer and will not even be able to think of getting work until march or april (all building work stops) and it seems that even to work on the deli counter at a upermarket, you have to have gone to college for 3 years to learn the job! v.difficult times ahead, but love living here....so far. (kids in school and kindergarten also!)

New gal in town!
Hi guys,
I'm in the process of joining the Salzburg English speakers - hope everybody's doing well!
I'm an Irishwoman in my mid-30s and I just fancied a change of scenery. I'm learning some German at the moment and am keeping fingers crossed that I can find work relatively quickly. If anyone knows of a room going in an apartment, please let me know! I'm fine until the second week in May, I'll be needing something around then.
In the meantime, I may just see some of you down at O'Malley's!
Best wishes,

Liz - all - work in Austria. Do you like music and children?
Kindermusik Austria is actively recruiting parents, music teachers, early childhood educators, special needs educators, dance teachers, midwives, entrepreneurs, expats and more in the AUSTRIAN region.
As a licensed Kindermusik Educator, you set your own class schedule and meet your own income goals. You have flexibility and freedom, so you spend your time the way you want to. What’s more, you’ll have access to health insurance and other benefits normally available only to full-time employees.
Our training program lets you learn online from home at the times that suit you best. Your mentor and small learning group will be with you all the way.
KINDERMUSIK is an Internationally recognized music program for infants, children and their families - fostering child development and parental interaction through music using song, instruments, movement and sign language.
You don't need a teaching degree (or any degree) or special certification to do this. You do go through kindermusik training (which I can help with) and of course should love children and music. It's really the perfect job for creative people, moms, expats, entreprenuers, midwives, teachers and more, looking to have their own business/be their own boss, who love children.
It's a really established company worldwide in case you don't know. You can find out a lot of Kinder Musik on youtube and google.

We're looking for a place to live, but have no idea what the best areas are. Ideally, we'd like somewhere within walking distance of the Paris Lodron Uni. ANyone know where is best. I've been looking online, but Parsch, Aigen, Maxglan etc mean nothing to me in terms of where they are. I'd be really grateful if someone could help. Maybe we'll see some of you in september.
