Long term visa for Thai spouse?

• Dear sir/madam,
  
  I am a 28 year old Irish national living in Thailand for the previous 2 years. I have been trying to find information about the requirements for a Thai national to receive a settlement (spousal) visa for Ireland.
  
  I am 28 and my finance is 25, and we plan to marry early next year.
  I am planning to return to Ireland to study for 3-4 years around August 2010 (in 20 months time).
  
  I am trying to find information on what is required to gain a settlement visa, or a visa that will allow her to live and work in Ireland for 3 or 4 years while I study there.
  
  And also advice on what we can do in the next 20 months to prepare for such an application to ensure it’s success.
  
  Has anybody got information or experience receiving a long term visa for a spouse from a non EAA country? Thanks.
